Asking Alexandria’s Danny Worsnop (Vocals) & Sam Bettley (Bassist)
TheInterlude.com:
Please introduce yourself and tell everyone what you do in Asking Alexandria.
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Hey everyone, I’m Danny and I do our vocals.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Hey, Im Sam I play bass in the band.
TheInterlude.com:
Thanks, so tell me how Asking Alexandria got started, and were you guys the original members?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Initially it was Ben who got me into the band and we just jammed out by ourselves for about 3 months before getting James and Cam. Sam’s the newest member of the band, but all together we’ve only been together just over a year.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Haha no way I’ve only been in the band about seven months now. I was in a band previously with Danny and I’d known Cam for while too since we were on the same course in college. I also met Ben through Danny. So i guess it all kicked off from there for me.
TheInterlude.com:
How did you guys come up with “Asking Alexandria,” and is there a meaning behind it?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
The name is from Alexander the Great, he made his own way and made his mark on everywhere he went. He pretty much took over the world, and that’s kinda what we want to do with our music, just get it to as many people as possible. We didn’t really want a guy’s name so we just chose the female alternative. The ‘Asking’ just came as something to go before it.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
What he said. haha.
TheInterlude.com:
What three bands were your biggest influence in writting the music you perform?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Hmm, we really took a lot of influence from Vanna, which made it really surreal when we went on tour with them and got to be good friends with them. I took a lot of influence from Emarosa/Dance Gavin Dance in the Jonny days. The guys are all influenced a lot by Enter Shikari too, which again will make it cool when we’re touring with them in September.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
I agree with Danny we have alot of infuence from Enter Shikari so its gonna be so cool to finally tour with those guys. Also The devil wears prada and Gwen stacy had a big impact from the start of us writing music.
TheInterlude.com:
Before we go any farther I would like to congraduate these guys on getting signed with Sumerian Records. How does it feel to be with such a great label?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Sumerian are incredible. They’re really so good to us and push us to be everything we can be. It’s cool to be with a label we can talk to as friends and who have an interest beyond our music. They just always keep us as happy with everything as possible.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Honeslty we could’nt ask for any more from Sumerian Records really. Like Danny says they have an interest beyond our music. Its like one big family and if there is anything we need they are straight on it! We look forward to working with them for time to come.
TheInterlude.com:
Your album “Stand Up And Scream” drops September 15th, can you tell me what was the process on getting everything ready to go into studio, also how long did it take to prepare?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
When we were writing the album we pretty much spent all day every day in the practice studio just putting things together as they came to us. We didn’t want to put out something that was ‘okay’ or the same as something else that was out there right now. It’s pretty much been since the day the band started till a couple of days before we got into the studio. We just wanted this album to be as good as it could be.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Wow preparing the everything for the studio was crazy. We would book practice time for like two weeks solid and trust me we’d use all of that time fine tuning everything for the album. We wanted it to be perfect! Sometimes we would stay up for nights on end recording rough tracks so we could listen to them over and over incase we was to spot anything one of us didnt like or wanted to change. Well worth it though! It made life in the studio alot less stressfull.
TheInterlude.com:
How was it working with “The Great” Joey Sturgis? He has produced some killer albums lately.
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Joey’s a genius! Love working with that guy! He just adds so much to the songs and has so many incredible ideas.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
All I can say is the album would not be the same if it wasnt for that guy. He is a wizard in the studio. He’d have the most incredible ideas and we would just be sat there like “HOLY S*** THATS AMAZING!” haha. I definatly want to work with Joey again.
TheInterlude.com:
Is there any special thing going on with promotion of the debut?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Yeah we’ve got some stuff planned. A lot of special release stuff and our video’s coming out for the release. We’re just really looking forward to getting the album out there!
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Well the pre-orders are already up on our page now.. We have various magazine adverts and interviews just to build up the hype around the album. We also have other things planned so keep your eye out for them
TheInterlude.com :
What was your favorite part about recording the album?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
I think personally it’s hearing everything we’ve worked on for so long gradually come together to the final product. Just having it all building up instrument by instrument.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
My favourate part would be creating all of the cool synth breaks with Joey and listening to it after we have built all the other insturments around it. EPIC! It was enough to send shivers down you back and the hear on the back of your neck stand up!
TheInterlude.com:
How was it working with Shawn Milke from Alesana?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Shawn’s a cool guy. He’s a good friend of ours and we were so happy to have him be involved with our album, especially with it being our debut. He’s an awesome guy with an incredible voice and I’m just glad we got to record with him.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Working with Shawn was such a privilige. He really pulled out all the stops to help us and we are so grateful. I couldnt be happier with the way his guest vocals turned out!
TheInterlude.com:
I know you guys are touring at the moment, but are there a couple bands that you would love to tour with sometime in the future?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
We’re really just happy to be on the road and meeting new bands and getting to spend the length of the tour with them. It’s never nice leaving them at the end but it’s cool to have people we’re on common grounds with who’re doing the same thing as us. So long as it’s cool people and we have fun, we really don’t mind who it is.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
Right now we are just having fun learning the ropes as we are a new band. So we honestly dont mind which band we tour with as long as they are cool down to earth guys like us. If i was to name a band or two it would have to be ADTR or BMTH. That would be amazing.
TheInterlude.com:
Is there anything else you would like to say before we sign off on this interview?
Danny – Asking Alexandria:
Just thank you to all the fans and everyone who’s had a part in getting us to where we are. All of you that come to our shows or listen to our music, you make it possible for us to be doing this. And it really means the world to us.
Sam – Asking Alexandria:
I’d like to also like to thank everyone who has shown us any kind of support whether its buying our album, wearing our merch, coming to our shows or just telling people about us. It all counts and we cant thank you enough! Cheers!
**TheInterlude.com would like to thank Danny And Sam of Asking Alexandria for taking the time and answering mine and everyone else’s questions.**
